Art Chantry (1954 – Present)
Arthur Samuel Wilbur Chantry II was born on April 9, 1954 in Seattle, Washington. He attained a bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University in 1978. Chantry created many groundbreaking posters and album covers for bands from the Pacific Northwest, including Nirvana, Gang of Four, Hole and The Sonics.
He also designed logos and corporate identities for various clients, including Post-Industrial Press and Urban Outfitters.
Chantry’s low-tech and high contrast approach to design has influenced generations of poster artists. His work has been exhibited at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum of Modern Art, Seattle Art Museum, the Smithsonian and the Louvre.
